Students hauling for students
Junket targets one recurring crunch on US campuses: move-in and move-out weeks, when students and visiting parents end up with furniture, mattresses and boxes they cannot take home. Instead of booking a commercial truck days ahead, a customer is matched with a local college student who comes and hauls the load away, often the same day. The matching is based on how close a hauler is to the dorm.
Two sides of the platform
On one side are the people moving out. They enter a dorm, apartment or house and choose a small, medium or large load; the site describes a flat rate per load size rather than hourly fees. On the other side are student haulers, who sign up to earn money between classes and on weekends, picking jobs near where they live and study. The site says each hauler provides a valid student ID and school email before taking jobs, and that customers can ask for their hauler's name and contact details before the pickup.
Load sizes and what is accepted
A small load is a few bags or a single piece of furniture such as a desk chair or a mini fridge, medium covers a couch or several boxes, and large is a full room cleanout. Furniture, mattresses, boxes and electronics are accepted, while paint, chemicals, propane tanks and anything that needs special disposal are not. The site describes most bookings as matched with a hauler within one to three hours.
Behind Junket
Junket is built and run autonomously on NanoCorp. Its agents built the booking flow, the hauler sign-up and a referral program.
