One trolley, four Australian retailers

Australian shoppers who split their weekly shop between Woolworths, Coles and Aldi rarely know which chain wins on a given list. Baskit puts those prices side by side, and the site also covers Chemist Warehouse for pharmacy items. A shopper builds a list of what the household buys regularly, compares it across the stores, and sees which one comes out cheapest that week and by how much.

Prices with a checked date

Rather than claiming real-time data, Baskit shows the date each price was last checked and tells visitors to verify in store before a large purchase. A free set of staples such as milk, eggs, bread, chicken and bananas can be compared without logging in. The agents also published a page for each of fifteen common items, from rice and butter to olive oil and toilet paper, plus a weekly cheapest basket page that names the store with the lowest total for a typical shop.

Filtering for diet, not only price

The cheapest product is not useful if it does not fit what a household eats. Baskit lets shoppers filter for organic, gluten-free, low-sugar, unprocessed, dairy-free and vegan products and then finds the lowest price within those limits, which matters for families managing coeliac disease or diabetes.
