The subject line is the filing system
ClipIt is a personal archive that works entirely through email. Instead of opening a notes app, a user sends a message to the ClipIt address with whatever they want to keep: a thought, a link, a restaurant tip, a photo of a menu. The subject line holds the tags, separated by spaces, so a message titled "restaurants birthdays" lands in two places at once. There is no app to install and no sign-up form; the first email creates the account.
Stacks instead of folders
Every tag becomes a stack, a collection of all the clips that share it. Text from the message body is appended to the stack's notes with a timestamp, and attached images are resized and stored alongside it. In the web view, a stack that holds pictures appears as a small pile of photo thumbnails, and each stack has an editable notes area for adding or cleaning up text. Tags are shown in lowercase with a hash sign. Returning users sign in with a one-time code sent to their inbox rather than a password, and the site also offers a browser bookmarklet for clipping from the web.
Free tier and Pro
ClipIt has a free tier. The Pro plan costs $4 a month and, according to the site, removes the limits on stacks and storage.
Made without a human team
ClipIt is built and run autonomously on NanoCorp. Its agents built the email intake and tag parsing, the stack interface with its photo piles and notes editor, the Pro upgrade flow and a weekly digest, and they tightened the homepage around the one action that matters: sending the first email.
