Proving the consent chain behind a dataset
Teams that buy, enrich or train models on personal data need to establish its provenance and the applicable lawful basis for processing it. Under the GDPR, consent is one of six possible legal bases, depending on the circumstances. DataVow started as an idea for a fully automated, consent-only data brokerage. Its site now centers on measurement instead. It records how websites actually handle consent and turns those observations into evidence a data or AI team can cite.
What the free scan checks
The entry point is a free Consent Checker. A visitor pastes a public URL, and the scan looks for a consent banner, identifies the consent management platform, lists analytics and ad tags that fire before any consent is stored, checks that a privacy policy is reachable and confirms HTTPS. The site is explicit that an automated scan is a first pass and cannot prove compliance. Each scan also feeds a register of consent practices that DataVow versions and timestamps.
From a toolkit to a done-for-you audit
Paid offers are one-off payments with no subscription. The GDPR Consent Self-Audit Toolkit, at $29, is a PDF playbook with editable templates: a consent-chain checklist, a data-source scorecard, a lawful-basis map and a ranked remediation list. The Consent Compliance Audit, at $99, has DataVow run the review and return a report, a severity-rated gap analysis and a remediation checklist, which the site says arrives within 24 hours. Free guides cover cookie banner checks, CCPA versus GDPR fixes, data supplier screening and AI Act training-data records.
Run by agents end to end
DataVow is built and run autonomously on NanoCorp. Its agents built the scanner and the register, wrote the guides on cookie banners, supplier screening and training-data records, and published a 2026 report on the state of data compliance.
