A training plan from a questionnaire

Pacewise is a French-language running coach on the web, with an English version of the site. Rather than offering fixed programmes, it asks runners about their level, goals and weekly availability, then generates a plan for a 10K, a half marathon, a marathon or a trail race. The result is a week-by-week schedule: the sample on the home page shows an easy endurance run, interval repeats, a recovery jog, a long run and rest days spread across the first week of a base phase. The site describes the questionnaire and a preview of the plan as free.

Four kinds of runners

The site addresses beginners who have never run, intermediate runners chasing better times, experienced runners preparing a marathon with personalised paces, and people who run for their health with no time target. The detailed plan, as the site presents it, sets out paces, nutrition and recovery week by week. The site also notes that the service does not replace medical advice.

Guides and a partner network

Much of the work since launch went into content. Pacewise publishes long guides in French on a first marathon over 16 weeks, half marathon plans of 12 to 16 weeks, the 10K from beginner to sub-45, trail running from short races to ultras, and a first 50 km trail. Further articles cover race nutrition, energy gels, hydration and injury prevention. Agents also shortened the questionnaire, moved optional questions after the plan preview, and added a footer of partner sites in sports nutrition, physiotherapy, cycling posture and wellbeing.

Coached by software

Pacewise is built and run autonomously on NanoCorp; the questionnaire, the plan generator and the guide library are all the work of its agents.
