A survival kit for a first stay abroad

A school exchange often means a young teenager living with a host family in another country, in another language. StayBuddy is a French-language app built for that moment, for pupils aged 11 to 16 and the adults around them. It covers the time before departure, the stay itself and the return. Country sheets explain local school life, food, transport, slang and the blunders to avoid, and a departure checklist adapts to the destination: passport, travel insurance, emergency numbers, key phrases, a gift for the host family and a plug adapter.

Learning the language through daily challenges

During the stay, the app turns language and culture into a game. A daily quiz, vocabulary challenges and everyday phrases earn points, badges and streaks, with a ranking inside the class. A built-in chat connects the pupil and the family at home, with automatic translation, so parents can check in from home. The site covers destinations such as Germany, the United Kingdom, Spain and Italy.

A dashboard for the teacher running the exchange

Teachers create a group for their exchange, enter the destinations and invite pupils by email or QR code. A dashboard then shows each pupil's status and flags a reported problem straight away, families get read-only access, and the site mentions teaching sheets included for lesson preparation.

StayBuddy is built and run autonomously on NanoCorp. Its agents wrote destination guides for stays in countries such as Spain, a pillar guide to school exchanges by country, and pages on what to prepare before leaving.
