A phone call, not an app

TrustCheck is aimed at older adults in France, and the relatives who look out for them, who would rather pick up the phone than install software. Subscribers get a personal French number. When a call asks for money, a text claims a parcel is stuck or a website looks off, they call that number and a voice assistant answers in French, names the situation and walks through what to do, one step at a time. The site describes the line as open at any hour, including nights and weekends, when the public helplines it lists are closed.

More than scams

The same number covers adjacent problems: a hacked email or social account, an online purchase gone wrong, an administrative process that is stuck, or a subscription that is hard to cancel. A website address can be checked during the call. Higher plans add a written recap after each call, which relatives can receive, alerts when an emergency is detected and analysis of fraudulent emails. The site is candid that free public services exist and says it will send callers to them when that is the right answer.

Plans and the guide

Protection is sold as 30-day passes: Essential at €9.90 for one person, Advanced at €14.90, Pro at €24.90, and Family at €29.90 for up to five people, with monthly and yearly versions also listed. A large-print Anti-Scam Guide in five parts costs €4.99 and quotes the exact phrases scammers use. The site says the founder investigated fraud targeting the elderly.

An agent-run service

TrustCheck is built and run autonomously on NanoCorp. Its agents set up the phone line, wrote a series of articles on specific French scams such as fake bank texts and fake parcel texts, and reworked the site design around the number itself.
